Today the qualifications for lead speciality

When darkness fells over the valley, according to tradition, the chairman of the organizing Committee of the “Trentina” stage of the Ice World Cup, Romolo Ghezzi, lighted the brazier up, which was placed next to the ice stadium. This way he officially started the 9th edition of the event, which uses to attract the attention for 2 days on the Daone Valley. As usual the ceremony was preceded by the parade of the Fanfare “Brigade Taurinense”, which marched through the streets of the village.

Tomorrow’s program opens at 9.30 am with men’s lead competition, which will qualify athletes for the afternoon semi – final. In parallel, from 10 am, there is women’s speed competition on the ice wall built next to the ice stadium.

The whole event will be filmed live by RAI SPORT PIU’ cameras.

The afternoon starts with women’s qualifications ( from 4.45 pm onwards ) and later on, from 7.45 pm, men’s semi – final.

Then the outdoor village will host athletes and the public in the tent before getting bright thank to the 9 pm fireworks show. Few minutes later it starts the marvellous men’s speed competition, where the Cassa Rurale Adamello Brenta trophy will be given. It’s a very rich program!

Good news from the temperatures point of view: in fact they should keep below zero, both on Saturday and Sunday, when men’s and women’s lead final competition will take place.

As usual the entered athletes, are in a large number and they come from 16 different nations. The more represented nation is Russia : it counts 22 athletes against 5 Italians and Spanish, 4 from BeNeLux, 3 Americans, Koreans, Romanians, Bulgarians and Slovenians.

“Compared to the previous editions the number of athletes was steady but the quality of the athletes increased, said Maurizio Gallo. Here in Pracul come only the more qualified athletes and for this reason Italians are fewer than usual”.

Italy will be well represented by Angelika Reiner from Merano, who won the lead competition in Kirov and by Herbert Klammer from Alto Adige, who placed 5th in Russia. Among men Markus Bendler is given the winner. He won in Daone in 2007 and in 2009.

He won in Kirov, too. He placed in a better position than the Russian Alexey Dengin and Vasily Terekhin, both of them in Daone.
